Project Manager – Missouri

Phillips Hardy Inc. is seeking a seasoned professional in the Heavy Highway industry to fulfill the responsibilities of Project Manager at our Columbia, Missouri office.  The responsibilities of the project manager will be to oversee the work of the construction team or teams responsible for various scopes of work. The PM is responsible for ensuring conformance of the work with project plans and specifications.  The ideal candidate should be very diverse in their field experience and will have a general understanding for managing scopes of work such as: grading, drainage, utilities, concrete paving, highway and bridge construction.  Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: oversight and management of field operations, scheduling of all site resources, work quality/quality control, subcontractor/supplier coordination, and all aspects of project site safety.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of the heavy highway construction industry is a must.
  • The successful candidate will show an ability to manage multiple tasks, and possess strong interpersonal/communication skills.
  • Familiarity working with City, State and Federal government agencies (Departments of Transportation and/or U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) is desirable.
  • The candidate needs to be very organized and possession of strong computer skill are a must.  Electronic document management will be an everyday responsibility.

Safety Manager – Traveling

Phillips Hardy Inc. is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to oversee the company safety programs at our job sites.  The position will be based in Columbia, Missouri, but will over see all aspects of the company’s safety programs which will require travel.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Maintain safety programs that meet or exceed corporate minimum requirements.
  • Create, communicate, and identify opportunities for improvements in corporate safety program.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate all Pre-Construction Safety Planning Meetings and act as a resource for field operations with federal, state, and local occupational safety and health requirements.
  • Maintain all administrative tasks related to specific safety documentation, filing system, etc. – including OSHA record keeping, management reports, etc.
  • Review and approve all subcontractors’ site specific safety programs and job hard analysis prior to subcontractor mobilization.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled site evaluations, follow-up, and tracking of corrections to deficiencies.
  • Attend weekly project management meetings.
  • Perform root cause and incident investigation techniques, when required – including collection of safety and health standard incident reporting forms and documentation.
  • Provide and document safety related training for employees.
  • Assist with safety related inspections, compliance reviews, insurance provider reviews/audits, and other federal, state, or local agency reviews/inquiries.
  • Review and make determinations on small claims submitted to the company from the general public or owner entities.
  • 5+ years of experience in field of construction health and safety required.
  • Ability to understand, build, and maintain a safety culture is required.
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal and state safety and health regulations is required.
  • OSHA 30 Certification is required.
  • OSHA 500 Certification is preferred.
  • CHST and/or Certified Safety Professional is preferred.

Project Superintendent – Traveling

Phillips Hardy Inc. is seeking a seasoned professional in the Heavy Highway industry to fulfill the responsibilities of Superintendent.  Must manage multiple aspects of assigned projects, including but not limited to: oversight and management of field operations, scheduling of all site resources, sequencing, work quality/quality control, subcontractor/supplier coordination, and all aspects of project site safety.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Work with project manager to determine method and sequencing of construction. Plans, directs, coordinates and budgets activities.
  • Manage day to day activities and prepare daily electronic field logs.
  • Manage multiple tasks, crews and projects as well as be able to handles changes in project priority based on resource availability.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with owner, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Communicate and promote safe working environment and company safety standards, with strong knowledge of OSHA regulations in regards to crane and bridge construction.
  • Must be able to read plans and have a strong knowledge of various DOT specifications and standards. Superintendent will inspect work in progress to ensure quality workmanship that conforms to contract specifications and standards.  Working knowledge of MoDOT Quality Management Program a plus.
  • Confers with supervisory and engineering personnel and inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.

  • 5+ years of experience working the heavy civil and bridge construction industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents

Concrete Paving Foreman – Traveling

Phillips Hardy Inc. is seeking an experienced concrete paving foreman to work on heavy highway construction projects. This position will be responsible for managing slipform and fixed form paving operations, and constructing finished pavements meeting stringent U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and state Departments of Transportation specifications. Please note, this position will be a traveling position, covering job sites across the state of Missouri.

 

Skills and Experience

    • Inspect condition of grade, forms, and steel placement for compliance with specifications prior to concrete placements.

    • Perform or assist with set up of slipform paving equipment
    • Coordinate slipform paving operations
    • Coordinate and implement fixed form paving operations
    • Monitor all placement, finishing, and curing operations for specification compliance
    • Direct and communicate with crew members and project managers to ensure high quality pavements
    • Perform and report time and cost coding for all supervised/managed employees
    • Minimum five (5) years’ experience performing job duties required of position
    • Must be self-motivated, detail oriented, and able to perform effectively in a fast paced environment
    • Able to work at remote locations
    • Good communication skills
    • Valid driver license
