Missouri

Controller

Phillips Hardy Inc. is seeking an experienced professional to fulfill the responsibilities of Controller at our Columbia, Missouri office.  The Controller a key member of the Phillips Hardy leadership team, providing insight and input for better operation, efficiency, and profitability of the business. The position will need to strategically think beyond the numbers while strongly influencing the long-term financial health of the corporation and efficient management of financial resources by anticipating and solving problems before they occur and driving constant process improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall performance of accounting team members, including, but not limited to, coaching, discipline and termination as outlined in company policies and procedures.
  • Leads the recruitment, selection, hiring, training, and development of all accounting team members. Ensures all team members have the tools and resources needed to be successful.
  • Responsible for accurate completion of monthly financials, unusual items are identified and explained.
  • Recommend and manage benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations.
  • Produces annual budget and forecasts; calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to leadership team.
  • Report on financial status on a regular basis and create ad-hoc reports when needed.
  • Works with external auditors and provides needed information for internal and external audits.
  • Responsible for insurance renewal paperwork is timely and accurate. Analyze insurance opportunity and make recommendations.
  • Oversee and manage the regulatory reporting, including tax preparation and compliance.
  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Protect company assets and confidential information in accordance with company policies and procedures. Including, but not limited to, client, team member and proprietary company

    Senior Project Manager

    Phillips Hardy Inc. is seeking a seasoned professional in the Heavy Highway industry to fulfill the responsibilities of Project Manager at our Columbia, Missouri office.  The responsibilities of the project manager will be to oversee the work of the construction team or teams responsible for various scopes of work. The PM is responsible for ensuring conformance of the work with project plans and specifications.  The ideal candidate should be very diverse in their field experience and will have a general understanding for managing scopes of work such as: grading, drainage, utilities, concrete paving, highway and bridge construction.  Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: oversight and management of field operations, scheduling of all site resources, work quality/quality control, subcontractor/supplier coordination, and all aspects of project site safety.

    Qualifications

    • Knowledge of the heavy highway construction industry is a must.
    • The successful candidate will show an ability to manage multiple tasks, and possess strong interpersonal/communication skills.
    • Familiarity working with City, State and Federal government agencies (Departments of Transportation and/or U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) is desirable.
    • The candidate needs to be very organized and possession of strong computer skill are a must.  Electronic document management will be an everyday responsibility.

    Field/Project Engineer

    Field Engineers will assist with on-site coordination for all phases of construction projects, including coordinating subcontractors, material and equipment, ensuring that specifications are being strictly followed, and work is proceeding on schedule.

    Responsibilities

    • Perform line and grade work for building layout and control as required.
    • Assist in the implementation of the site safety program as required and ensure subcontractor compliance with safety standards and all applicable safety codes and regulations.
    • Assist in the maintenance of contract documents and electronic web-based documents for field operations.
    • Review contract drawings, specifications and shop drawings to ensure proper coordination and installation.
    • Assist in the preparation of project as-builts
    • Daily communication is required with site contractors, other technicians and project manager
    • Should have a sound understanding of construction practices
    • May perform other duties as necessary or assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Previous experience and/or knowledge of heavy highway industry
    • Possesses excellent interpersonal/communication and organizational/coordination skills
    • Computer Skills must include: Microsoft Office (Excel/Word/Access), P6 Scheduling and/or willingness to learn
    • Must be willing to travel on occasion
    • BS Degree in Construction Management or related field

    • Work with General Structures Superintendents regarding job specific needs. Plan, direct, coordinate, and budget activities.
    • Daily contact with job site crews to ensure project time schedule and workforce needs are being met.
    • Schedules subcontractors to complete work as needed. Monitors subcontractor work to ensure work is complete per subcontractor agreement. Interact with Owner Representatives in regards to project requirements and quantity tracking for payment.
    • Promote safe working environment; Identify workplace hazards and take corrective action when necessary.
    • Complete daily record keeping including daily logs, equipment schedules, material schedules, and time cards.
    • Prepares and participates in regular job site meetings throughout the project life cycle.
    • Ensures all work follows specified quality standards. Inspects field work for quality compliance, materials for quality compliance and review assembly of manufacturer’s literature and drawings before work begins.
    • Regular participation in training for construction methods and safety. Supports training opportunities for staff.
    • Other projects or duties as assigned by management.

     

    Qualifications

    • 2-5 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Required certifications: Excavating Safety Training, OSHA 10 hour
    • Preferred certifications: OSHA 30 hour, CPR, First Aid, NPDES.
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret policies, reports, construction plans, construction specifications, and legal documents.
    • Experience with dirt, earthwork, grading, bridge construction, and all the heavy equipment necessary to complete Haeavy-Highway/Civil construction activities.
    • Ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, iPad and iPhone.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with mathematical concepts.

      Heavy Equipment Operator

      Heavy Equipment Operators are responsible for efficiently, effectively, and responsibly running their assigned equipment. They will consistently complete daily visuals, keep equipment clean and greased, and immediately reporting any maintenance concerns to their Superintendent.

      Responsibilities

      • Complete assigned tasks in a timely, effective manner.
      • Consistently complete daily visuals of assigned equipment, as well as meter reads and any other reoccurring tasks.
      • Keep equipment cleaned and greased. Report any maintenance concerns to Superintendent immediately.
      • Work collaboratively with crew members and other employees; maintain a professional demeanor.

      Qualifications

      • Experience operating heavy equipment.
      • Preferred: Current OSHA (10 Hour) Certification – can be obtained online
      • Familiarity with grade control.
      • Occasional Saturday availability.
